At Horus we know how important mental health is for the well-being of all people.
An estimated 84 million people in the European Union suffer from persistent mental health disorders, which, although of utmost importance, often overshadow physical health problems such as cancer, the second leading cause of death after suicide.
This group of people often has limited access to quality preventive healthcare services and is often overlooked in research.
That is why this project, a sister initiative of HORUS with which we are going to collaborate, is so important:
The CO-CAPTAIN project, funded by the European Commission’s Horizon Europe programme, aims to optimise healthcare pathways for cancer prevention in people with mental health problems. To do so, it identifies implementation strategies for local communities in 4 pilot cities: Vienna (Austria), Athens (Greece), Lodz (Poland) and Madrid (Spain).
This model focuses on patient empowerment, removing system barriers, providing social support and ensuring access to primary prevention services.
CO-CAPTAIN relies on the collaboration of organisations with experience in mental illness care in different regions of Europe, as well as academic institutions and local governments.
An important step towards the provision of high-quality cancer preventive care services for people living with mental health problems.
