12th International Symposium: “Health for All? Health in the Urban Environment”

The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Rijeka (MEDRI) is organising the 12th International Professional and Scientific Symposium under the theme “Health for All? Health in the Urban Environment”. This event will gather professionals and researchers to explore how urbanisation affects public health and what can be done to build healthier, more inclusive cities.

The symposium will focus on several key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:

  • SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being

  • SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation

  • SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy

  • SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities

  • SDG 13 – Climate Action

In addition to panel discussions and knowledge exchange, the programme will feature presentations and lectures by internationally recognised experts, structured around four main themes:

  1. Urban Environment and Health – Including conceptual models, urban design, green infrastructure, socio-economic health inequalities, air pollution and climate change.

  2. Chronic Diseases and Urban Lifestyles – Addressing non-communicable diseases, urban food environments, physical activity and mental health.

  3. Public Health Policies and Interventions for Healthier Cities – Covering urban planning, housing, mobility, social determinants of health, and community-based initiatives.

  4. Future Cities: Innovations and Smart Health Solutions – Exploring digital health, big data, AI, smart city tools, and resilience to climate and pandemic risks.

The symposium offers a dynamic and multidisciplinary platform aimed at promoting dialogue and sharing best practices to improve urban health on a global scale.
