HORUS Pilot in Rijeka: recruitment strategy

As part of WP4 – Pilot Rijeka, our Croatian partners have successfully implemented a local recruitment and outreach strategy to prepare the ground for urban health interventions.

Throughout March, April and May 2025, the team organised a series of activities aimed at informing, involving, and activating local residents across targeted neighbourhoods in Rijeka.

In total, 156 people signed up to participate in activities focused on:

  • Nordic walking and strength training

  • Nutrition and cooking workshops

  • Health literacy

  • Physical and mental wellbeing

The public health campaigns took place in collaboration with universities, local boards and health institutions — combining physical measurements, community demonstrations and awareness-raising about the HORUS project.

These efforts have laid a strong foundation for the next steps in Rijeka, including a 9-month Nordic walking intervention starting in July.

In the article below, you can explore the full list of events, access the photo gallery, and watch the video that captures the spirit of the pilot.

Huge thanks to our colleagues in Rijeka for their commitment and care in engaging the community!
