The World Health Organisation promotes healthy diets and physical activity in the South-East Asia Region

We live in an ever-growing world in which we need to keep our health first and foremost, and in doing so promote a sedentary lifestyle and a poor diet so that sedentary lifestyles and poor nutrition do not take over our daily lives.

Although the HORUS project focuses mainly on Europe, all regions of the world need to address NCDs, especially diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, as they are the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide.

Therefore, The World Health Organization has called on countries in the South-East Asia Region to strengthen policies to promote healthy diets and physical activity to combat rising levels of overweight, obesity and NCDs, as NCDs are also a leading cause of mortality in the Region.

This concern stems from the fact that this region is experiencing rapid urbanisation and economic growth, a perfect time to analyse whether the growth of cities is the right one, to make healthy cities that promote physical activity and less sedentary lifestyles.

Sound policy and regulatory frameworks are crucial to creating healthier food environments both outside and inside the home, and to meet its objectives the WHO has made some recommendations, which we share with you here, that are important for any region of the world.
