Next week, HORUS partners Marta Rofin Serra and Ruth Gow McLenachan will travel to Portugal to attend the WHO Regional Office for Europe 2026 Healthy Cities Conference, taking place in Viana do Castelo.
Under the theme “Healthy Cities for Healthy Generations”, the conference will bring together cities and experts from across Europe working to create healthier, more equitable and sustainable urban environments for present and future generations.
As part of the programme, Marta and Ruth will lead the workshop:
“Quantifying urban wellbeing: using the Healthy Cities Quick Scan to inform and assess evidence-based urban planning”
The session will take place on Thursday, 18 June 2026, from 10:30 to 12:00, at the Theatre – Experimental Room, Viana do Castelo Cultural Centre.
Using a real-world case study from Liverpool, the workshop will show how the Healthy Cities Generator can be used to establish urban health baselines and evaluate the potential impact of proposed urban interventions.
Developed within the framework of HORUS, the Healthy Cities Generator is a digital tool designed to help urban planners, policymakers and health professionals better understand how urban environments influence health outcomes. By linking planning decisions to concrete health and economic indicators, the tool supports more evidence-based strategies for healthier cities.
The workshop will offer participants practical insights into how healthy city goals can be translated into measurable, evidence-informed urban strategies.
